Hi all thought I would give an update on the hosting side of things.
Well we have took on a few more servers from clans and single players - also lost a couple - but would say the 2 I lost were from users who left because they were going back to collage and both said they would use our hosting again.
At Present the Dedi is running at well under 50% on its 8 cores - spikes are never over 60% so all good CPU wise.
Network side we have a 1GB link and it dooes not go over 10% unless we are getting DDOS attacks. Between Gaming Deluxe and ourselves we do everything we can to stop these and Gaming Deluxe are upgrading their own protection but these do happen and will happen but I hope you feel as I do that they are not that often and we do get them sorted with them.
Memory on the dedi is 8gb and we are currently at 6.20gb normal usage so all good but I am looging to may be upgrade to 12gb.
Disk I/O is high this is mainly due to log file writes so at present this is not an issue but I kind of want to look at this as this will be our bottle neck on current hardware spec.
Funding well as you all know we have reduced pricing and we are now £79 in credit with approx £40 Outstanding in late payments - but all in hand.
The whole point with the AAAA communty hosting is to get the costs down and increase the performance - issues will always happen but I hope and think I have the balance right and always open for feed back and suggestions
Will get some costings on possible upgrades if they are to costly will reduce prices again and as it stands we still have scope to run at least another 14 servers depending on slots and so on but would never take on more servers if I thought it would effect service performance..............
So will keep you posted - I guess if we upgrade the basics are in the longer term price's still come down but more
Having expanded to quick in the past and got a second dedi and then had to down scale is a bitch so staying on a single hardware platform is more flexible solution where we can add more resources when required and reduce when we need to kind of helps me a lot to not over run costing and also if a clan / user is late playing costs can be covered with the community credit.
I would add to above that no one has ever breeched trust and done a runner owing money so we will suspend hosting when a user fails but all in all I would like to thank every one for their support and hope we can keep this all running and all reduce costs for playing the game we love
Cheers all
Jon
Hi all wanted to update you on where I am up to on this upgrade...............
Been speaking with Gaming Deluxe a lot and the basics are to get a decent disk raid that would increase the performance on disk I/O would cost to much
At present we dont need this - but as we expand we will so the plan is to get this http://www.ebuyer.com/363436-kingston-120gb-hyperx-3k-ssd-sh103s3-120g So we will purchase and ship direct to GD who will fit for us free I will then move the servers to the new disk which we dont expect to be down for than an hour
We will leave the OS on the existing Disk and move all the servers to the new solid state high performance disk - the current servers are using approx 60gb of disk so this will give us loads of expansion also as its 120gb may not sound a lot in disk size terms but it is when its solid state memory The basics are that the MOHAA servers use a lot of read and writes - the writes come from the log files so this SSD drive will boost perforance a lot
To fund this upgrade will come from the community pot that all hosted clans chip into
We are short a bit at present due to some debt from another clan but they are working on it............
We have most of the cost covered but need the rest so I dont end up footing the bill.
The other upgrade that will take place is to increase the memory from 8gb to 12gb - this will be rented and paid for monthly and their will be no increase in hosting costs !!
I hope to get this done in the next 2 weeks depending on server payments - So will review after the 6th October to see what we have in the community pot :)
